Route 153 South from Madison Ride: July 20, 2003
We set out from East Madison, NH on Route 153 South. This shot is of the road as it is most of the way along it's length - narrow, twisty and in pretty good shape.
The route goes along for a number of miles like this. Tremendous fun. At one poiunt you have to get on Rte 25 for about 1/2 mile, but it goes back to this road type as soon as you turn off 25 onto 153 again.
This little gazebo/bandstand is on the Common Green in the center of Freedom, NH. This is one seriously New Englandish town. Historic buildings and everything neat as a pin. Very cool.
We came upon a trio of Harleys taking a slow tour along the same route we were puttering along.
This cemetery is very small and looks like it hasn't changed in nearly a century.
The pines get tall along the way. These are White Pines, but there are also Red Pine and Spruce mixed in the local flora.
Here we crested the rise overlooking Province Lake in Wakefield, NH. There is a golf course that straddles the road here. Watching out for errant golf balls, we scooted on down the hill to...
Province Lake. The road runs right up to the lakeside here and there is much traffic stopped and/or parked, making it a pretty narrow place, what with oncoming traffic and pedestrian traffic.
This guy wasn't thinking about traffic, though. I suspect he was wishing he was motorcycling with us:)
Even the dogs get wet at Province Lake. You can see how close the road is to the lake in this shot.
When we got to Wakefield itself the Harley trio pulled off while we continued south.
Wakefield is an old town and has it's share of old buildings. Like Freedom, it seems as neat as a pin in most places.
At the junction of Route 16 we turned north and headed back towards the mountains and home.
Even though Route 16 is a main artery through the mountains is has its share of scenery. Little fields like this...
Give way to pondside homes grown near-full with rushes and water lilies.
We stopped at our bank for pizza money and as we left shot this picture of another group of Harleys trying to get into the southbound traffic. Route 16 in the summer can be tedious with traffic.
BTW - The pizza is very good at White Lake Pizza in West Ossippee. You can see their sign across the street in this picture. They are on the right side as you go north - just before you get to the junction of 16 and 41.
Total miles ridden: 76
