Ride with New Hampshire Chapters of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club: August 24, 2003

We met up at the Yankee Smokehouse in West Ossipee, NH at about 9:30AM on a sunny, cool Sunday. CJ and I had ridden only 6 miles to the meeting place, though the rest had come from as far away as Peabody, MA, if memory serves me correctly.

Shafty02 [AKA Cam, with his back to the camera] looks on as we all mill around with coffee in hand getting to know each other. CJ and I had never ridden with this group, but when the subject of a ride to Attitash came up on the SCRC Delphi Forum we offered to show them the scenic route around Conway, NH. This is our favorite way of meeting new people - riding and gabbing between ride sectors.

A small group of about 10 bikes were ready for the ride... a perfect size for a group. Easy to get through intersections without leaving the tail behind.

A fine bunch of machinery and people. Here's some of the machinery.

We mounted up around 10AM for the ride north.

Some took longer to mount up than others :) Don't you just love the two pigs over the door at The Yankee Smokehouse? Lets you know you'll have a really healthy meal before you even get inside ;^>

Just north of the Smokehouse we turned right, off Route 16 onto Route 41.

This first 7 or 8 miles passes some lakes and rivers...

And begins to run out some twisties to enjoy... a small taste of the roads to come...

At the end of Route 41 there is a stop sign where we waited for everyone to arrive...

...before turning right onto Route 113, passing through Silver Lake.

For some reason our digital camera stopped working for a few miles, so this next picture is of the group pulling out onto 153 after using the East Madison Road to cross from Rte 113 in Madison, NH to Rte 153 in East Madison.

This is one of my favorite roads, twisting along the shorelines of a string of small ponds and lakes on it's way to the small village of Eaton, NH.

It really gets twisty, too.

This is Crystal Lake, as seen from just outside of Eaton.

Coming into Eaton the road makes a 90 degree right hand turn.

From Eaton we continued on 153 to Conway, passed across Route 16 in the middle of town, and out onto West Side Road, avoiding all the in town traffic in the process.

We followed West Side all the way to Route 16 on the north end of North Conway Village and turned left towards Attitash. We all stopped in Glen at the local Dunkin' Donuts for a quick caffeine blast...

Sammie got another chance to run around and meet people. She was wearing a silly looking outfit, kind of like patriotic shirt and shorts, but all in one-piece. Everyone suggested we get her something more 'biker like'. We definitely agree and plan to get her some doggie leather at this year's Fryeburg Fair. In the meantime she'll just have to look silly to keep warm on cool rides.

What do bikers do when they stop for a stretch? well, they drink lots of coffee while they talk about motorcycling...

... and they talk on their cellphones. Here's a 'two-fer'.

Time to pack it and saddle up again.

On the road again, heading north on Rte 302 out of Glen, towards Attitash - the day's destination.

It's only a few miles from Glen...

...to Attitash. Here we all are, looking for a place to park.

We finally ended up on the other side of the road where Attitash has some large lots. We chose a dirt packed lot to park in, though some of the group rode past this lot and instead chose an asphalt lot further on. Come on, Guys - dirt washes off ;^>

Until next time... Enjoy! [I know, this pic falls out of sequence, but you have to admit - it makes for a good exit, eh?
